Reason for studying Japanese

I had an English conversation lesson on Saturday.
A boy who was doing homework at the school was there.
He looked very young.
Maybe, he is about 13 years old.

My school provides not only English conversation classes but also Japanese conversation class, guitar class and so on.
He takes a Japanese conversation class.
I had never seen such situations.
I was interested in his reason that he studies Japanese.
I could not control my curiosity.
And I asked 'why do you study Japanese?'

The answer was 'I have no idea. I like to study languages.'
For me, studying English is only for my business.
When I was a student, the reason was for examinations.

I respect him.
